This weekend, Saturday, June 27th & Sunday June 28th, is Walleye Contest Weekend. Walleye at Shabbona Lake are different than other lakes. Best time to fish Walleye at Shabbona Lake is soon after the weed beds reach maturity. Other lakes it is early Spring or late Fall, but not at Shabbona Lake. So now is Walleye Time at Shabbona Lake!!!
We are having a very good year, both in numbers of Walleye caught and the size of the larger fish. Both categories are higher than previous years. A lot of credit goes to you the fishermen who have donated to the Walleye Restocking Fund. Your donated pennies, nickles, dimes, quarters and dollars, in previous years, have really added up to make this a banner year.
You must sign up at Lakeside prior to fishing to be in the contest. We ask that you donate $5.00 to the Restocking Fund.
Remember the legal size for a Walleye is 18 Inches, with a possession limit of 6 per person.
Winners will be determined by total weight of up to 6 Walleye. This is a two day event and you may weigh-in a partial limit on Saturday and fill the limit on Sunday. Example, catch 4 legal Walleye on Saturday and weigh them in. Catch 2 more legal Walleye on Sunday and add them to your total. You can not swap out any Saturday fish.
All fish must be caught at Shabbona Lake between 6 AM Saturday and 7 PM Sunday. All fish must be weighed at Lakeside’s scale. Fish must be legal size (18″) to be weighed.
We encourage catch and release!!!
There are a lot of undersize Walleye being caught, DO NOT get caught in possession of undersize fish. There will be no warnings, just tickets!!!
