Got out tonight for a couple of hours. Reports have been that Crappie fishing was slow. So I targeted them and found them.
Crappie were very shallow. They were at the tops of Cribs, along weedlines and in shallow brush. Set the minnow as shallow as 18″ and no deeper than 4 feet.
The lake is filling up with young of the year bait fish, and the depth finder was showing most fish activity very shallow, less than 10 feet.
Looks like we have a thermocline about 16 feet down. I would guess most anglers have been fishing too deep for Crappie. Shallow up and you will catch some real nice ones. Caught ove 30 Crappie, kept 10 for supper!!!
