May 19th, 2012 – 4th Annual Crappie Open – Heaviest Stringer of 10 Crappie will win a gift card from Cabela’s Outdoors.  Pokanoka’s Café will have its famous dollar days as well.  (See open rules at end of calendar)

May 26th, 2012 – 1st Annual Badminton Tournament – Shabbona Lake State Park Campground at the Family Sports Center at the Camp Store.  Come with your family and friends for this family friendly event.  More details coming soon!

May 27th, 2012 – 1st Annual Volleyball Tournament – Shabbona Lake State Park Campground at the Family Sports Center at the Camp Store.  Come with your family and friends for this family friendly event.  More details coming soon!

June 8th, 9th, 10th, 2012 – “Free Fishing Weekend” – No Fishing License required this weekend – 2 (two) Free Bait Items with Any All Day Boat Rental Reservation

June 9th, 2012 – 4th Annual Bass Open – Heaviest Bass will win a gift card from Cabela’s Outdoors.  Pokanoka’s Café will have its famous dollar days as well.  (See open rules at end of calendar)

June 23rd, 2012 – 4th Annual Walleye Open – Heaviest Walleye will win a gift card from Cabela’s Outdoors.  Pokanoka’s Café will have its famous dollar days as well.  (See open rules at end of calendar)

July 4th, 2012 – Fireworks – Enjoy the reflecting fireworks over Shabbona Lake as the sounds of exploding fireworks reverberate off of the surrounding trees.

July 14th, 2012 4th Annual Bluegill Open – Heaviest Stringer of 10 Bluegill will win a gift card from Cabela’s Outdoors.  Pokanoka’s Café will have its famous dollar days as well.  (See open rules at end of calendar)

July 22nd, 2012 – 1st Annual Family Day – at Shabbona Lake State Park – Hay Rides, Canoe Rides, IDNR Wildlife Trailer.  More details coming soon!

August 4th, 2012 – 1st Annual Customer Appreciation Day Pig Roast – Join us for an old fashion Pig Roast at Pokanoka’s Café.  More details coming soon!

August 18th, 2012 – 4th Annual Catfish Open – Heaviest Stringer of 6 Catfish will win a gift Card from Cabela’s Outdoors.  Pokanoka’s Café will have its famous dollar days as well.  (See open rules at end of calendar)

September 1st, 2012 – 1st Dinner & A Movie at Pokanoka’s – More details coming soon!

September 15th, 2012 – 4th Annual Muskie Open – Longest Muskie of the day will win a gift card from Cabelas outdoors.  Pokanoka’s Café will have its famous dollar days as well.  (See open rules at end of calendar)

October 6th, 2012 – 2nd Dinner & A Movie at Pokanoka’s – More details coming soon!

October 20th, 2012 – 1st Annual Crappie/Bluegill Open – Heaviest stringer of 5 Crappie and 5 Bluegill will win a Cabela’s gift card.  Pokanoka’s Café will be open with a limited menu from 11AM to 4PM.  (See open rules at end of calendar)

Fishing Open Rules

No entry fee or sign up.  These are family friendly events.

During the Night Ice Fishing, Crappie, Bluegill, Catfish and Crappie/Bluegill Opens immediate family members may combine there catches to make one stringer.

All fish must be caught and “weighed in” at Shabbona Lake during the fishing open hours of 6AM to 7PM.  You may “weigh in” fish at any time at Shabbona Lakeside.  (Night Ice Fishing Opens hours are 8AM to 9:30PM)

Please donate $5.00 to our walleye restocking fund, to double your first place prize.  If you wish to donate, you must donate and sign in at Shabbona Lakeside before going fishing.

1st Place gets $100.00 Cabela’s gift card ($200.00 Cabela’s gift card if you donate to our walleye fund.  You must donate and sign in at Shabbona Lakeside before going fishing to be eligible for the extra $100.00)

2nd Place gets $50.00 Cabela’s gift card

3rd Place gets $25.00 Cabela’s gift card

How fishing open winners are decided.

Night Ice Fishing Opens: Heaviest stringer of up to five Crappie and five Bluegill

Crappie Open: Heaviest stringer of up to ten Crappie

Bass Open: Heaviest single Bass

Walleye Open: Heaviest single Walleye

Bluegill Open: Heaviest stringer of up to ten Bluegill

Catfish Open: Heaviest stringer of up to six Catfish

Muskie Open: Longest single Muskie

Bluegill/Crappie Open: Heaviest stringer of up to five Crappie and five Bluegill

  1. can the stringer for the crappie open be a combined stringer of yourself and a immediate family member? Also what time does the open start and is it a first come first come served open?
